Cian O’Connor is one of Ireland’s most decorated and long-serving international show jumping riders, known for both his Olympic successes and consistent performances at the very top of the sport. He made his senior international debut for Ireland as a teenager and has since represented his country at four Olympic Games, four World Championships, and six European Championships, earning over 165 senior FEI Nations Cup caps in the Irish green jacket — a mark of remarkable longevity and national service in the sport. 

O’Connor’s major competitive achievements include winning Olympic individual bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games aboard Blue Loyd 12, which remains Ireland’s first equestrian Olympic medal. He also delivered strong performances at Tokyo 2020 (finishing seventh individually) and competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics as part of Ireland’s jumping team. At the European Championships, he contributed to team gold and individual bronze in 2017, and he has helped Ireland to team successes in major Nations Cup campaigns, including multiple victories in Ireland’s historic Aga Khan Trophy at the Dublin Horse Show.

On the international Grand Prix circuit, O’Connor continues to excel, highlighted by his win in the $300,000 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Ocala CSI 5* with Bentley de Sury in 2025, where he narrowly edged other top riders in a competitive jump-off. He was also recognized as the most successful Nations Cup rider of the 2024 season by Swiss magazine PferdeWoche, recording the highest number of clear rounds among all riders in international Nations Cup competition that year. 

In addition to his competition record, O’Connor is active as a coach and mentor through Karlswood Stables in County Meath, Ireland, where he trains riders and develops horses for top-level show jumping, combining his competitive career with a strong role in nurturing the next generation.
