September Is a Good Time to Reassess Your Horse’s Routine

Fall does not arrive at the barn all at once.
One week, you are still riding in summer heat. The next, mornings are cooler, the arena feels dustier, turnout changes, show weekends fill the calendar, and horses are settling into a more consistent workload again.
That is why September is one of the best times to pause and ask a simple question: does my horse’s current routine still fit the season we are entering?
A horse coming off a hot summer may still need hydration support after work and travel. A horse spending more time in the arena or adjusting to changing environmental conditions may benefit from seasonal respiratory support. For others, a busier schedule, travel, or changes in turnout may put digestive support back on the radar.
There is also the return to regular work. As training schedules become more structured, it is worth looking at whether your horse’s joint-support routine still makes sense for the work ahead.
The goal is not to overhaul everything at once. It is to be intentional about the details that change with the season.
At Equine America, we think of a support program as part of a horse’s complete routine - not a one-size-fits-all checklist. Apple Hi-Drate, Pollen Eze Xtra Strength, Uls-Gard, and Performance & Recovery each support different parts of that routine, depending on your horse’s individual needs.
A little seasonal planning now can make the transition into fall feel more manageable for both horse and rider.
